Getting started
How do I allow screen capture?
Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording and turn on TinkerShot. Then quit and reopen TinkerShot.
macOS requires this permission to capture the screen. Pasting, opening and dropping images work without it.
macOS may ask again after about a month without use, or after an OS update.
Which Macs can run TinkerShot?
Any Mac with macOS 15 or later. TinkerShot is coming to the Mac App Store.
Where is the TinkerShot window?
TinkerShot lives in the menu bar. Click its icon and choose Capture Region, Capture Window or Capture Full Screen. Capture Region also has a keyboard shortcut (see below).
If the menu bar icon is hidden behind your Mac’s notch, open TinkerShot from Applications. The Welcome window opens.
Can I style an image I already have?
Yes. Use Open Image…, drop an image on the editor, or copy it and choose Paste from Clipboard in the menu bar menu. Inside the editor, Paste works too.
Capture and export
What keyboard shortcuts are there?
- ⇧⌘2 capture a region
- Space switch between region and window while capturing
- Esc cancel a capture
- ⇧⌘V Paste from Clipboard, from anywhere
- ⌘V paste in the editor
- ⌘C copy the finished PNG
- ⌘S save
- ⇧⌘S Save As…
Window and full-screen capture are in the menu bar menu. Shortcuts can’t be changed in this version.
Where are my saved screenshots?
Export in the editor toolbar saves to ~/Pictures/TinkerShot. In Finder, open your home folder, then Pictures, then TinkerShot. To pick another place, use Save As… in the Export tab.
Which formats and sizes can I export?
PNG, at 1×, 2× or 3×, both when copying and when saving. At Auto size the screenshot’s pixels are copied 1:1, so text stays sharp.
The Size menu also has aspect ratios (16:9, 4:3, 3:2, 1:1), post sizes for X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads and YouTube thumbnails, and custom sizes from 16 to 16,384 pixels a side, up to 64 megapixels.
Watermark and purchases
Is TinkerShot free?
Yes. The download is free and every editing tool is included. Exports carry a small “Made with TinkerShot” mark. The Lifetime Unlock, $4.99 once, removes it or replaces it with your own text.
Price shown in USD; the App Store shows the price in your local currency. No subscription. No account.
How do I unlock TinkerShot or restore a purchase?
Click Free in the editor’s toolbar, choose Export › Remove…, or choose Unlock TinkerShot… from the menu bar icon. Restore Purchases is in the same window.
The unlock works on every Mac signed in with your Apple Account. On a new Mac, sign in with the same Apple Account and choose Restore Purchases.
How do I request a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple determines eligibility. We never contest refund requests.
Go to Apple’s site, sign in with the Apple Account you used to buy, and follow the steps. If you bought the unlock, you can also choose Request a Refund… in TinkerShot’s License window.
